Swami Rama

Swami Rama Ji

Swami Rama was born in 1925 in the Garhwal Himalayas.

He was an adherent of the Sankhya Yoga tradition and was encouraged by his Master Madhavananda Saraswati to travel and find remote monasteries in the Himalayas including Nepal.

Hence, Rama studied various Himalayan sages, including his Grandmaster who was in Tibet. He travelled extensively in the USA and Europe, promoting his knowledge of yoga there.

He is the first Yogi to have studied at Menninger clinic in the USA, where scientific tests were undertaken to understand how he was able to voluntarily control his heartbeat, blood pressure and body temperature.

He founded the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy with which has its HQ in the USA and branches all over the world.
