Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda was born in Calcutta in 1863.

Even as a young child, he showed an inclination towards the spiritual and self realisation. So he chose Ramakrishna as his Guru as he was certain that Ramakrishna would be able to help him on his inner journey.

He was introduced to Advaita Vedanta by Ramakrishna and given the guidance that the best form of worship is service.

Swami Vivekananda is renowned for introducing Vedanta and yoga to the USA and Europe. Moreover, he promoted Hinduism as a world religion at an international stage as a world religion by introducing it in 1983 at the Parliament of World Religions at Chicago. In 1987 he established the Ramakrishna Mission and Math.
