Swami Kuvalayananda - Yoga Master

Swami Kuvalayananda was born in 1863. He was a freedom fighter and highly influenced by Sri Aurobindo during his college days and by Paramahansa Madhavdasji, a great yogi from Bengal, later in his life.

Madhavdasji guided Kuvalayananda to deal with yoga in a scientific manner. So, he studied the effects of yoga on the human body the health benefits which amass with yoga practice. Laboratory experiments undertaken at Baroda Hospital during the early 1920s convinced Kuvalayananda that yoga can aid health issues and ignite spiritual motivation that benefit society at large.

He then developed a wish to use yoga systematically to bring about healing and wellbeing. He established the Kaivalyadhama Institute of Yoga in Pune, with this aim in mind.
